Team Forecasting
Objective
In this workshop, you will become familiar with the team modeling features in CWMS and how they can be utilized within your office.
To do so you will:
- Download an existing Team Watershed from the network drive.
- Explore how a Team Watershed is set up.
- Download an existing Team Forecast from the network drive and make changes to model parameters.
- Upload changes made on local models to the Mater Watershed and the Team Forecasts on the network drive.
Team Modeling facilitates collaboration between modelers working with the same Watershed and Forecasts. Multiple modelers may be sharing responsibility within a complex watershed containing several models. One modeler may only be responsible for the HEC-HMS model, while another is in charge of HEC-ResSim and HEC-RAS. Team Modeling allows each modeling team member to focus only on the models and alternatives they are responsible for, and share information in an organized manner.
Team Modeling consists of a Master Watershed and its Forecasts, which are stored in a shared location (such as a Network Drive). Team members share data by uploading and downloading changes to and from this Master Watershed, through a local copy that resides on their computer. When watershed files are updated on the Master Watershed, team members working on the same Watershed are notified of the changes by a real-time notification system. It is highly recommended that Master Watersheds are located on network drives, and not the CWMS sever.
The CAVI and the Master Watershed keep detailed records that provide information on what files are changed, when the changes were made, and who modified the data. This information includes changes made to both base watershed data and forecast data.
The presentation below contains background information on Team Forecasting in CWMS.
Workshop Setup
This workshop is intended to demonstrate team modeling. The way this happens is by saving a master watershed to a common location (such as a network drive) that multiple modelers can access.
The instructors will pair off the class into groups of two, and each team will be assigned a number. That number will correspond to the master watershed number that they will interact with in this workshop. Each group of two will have an HEC-HMS modeler and an HEC-ResSim modeler.
Tasks
Task 1: Downloading the Watershed
Task 2: Downloading and Uploading to the Master Watershed - HEC-HMS
Task 3: Downloading and Uploading to the Master Watershed - HEC-ResSim
