Taking a moment to adjust the default project settings within a new HEC-MetVue project streamlines the workflow.

Update Project Default Settings.

Click on Project Defaults in the Explorer Window, and then click on the Global Settings button in the Project Defaults – Properties window.

Updating settings within the Project Defaults category ensures that all future sessions created will inherit these default settings (scales, color palettes, shapefiles, etc.).

First, notice that the "Save Paths Relative" box has already been checked for this exercise's project file to ensure that input data references within the project's directory are saved with relative paths.

Next, ensure the box for the "Auto Encompass Maps" setting so that an HEC-MetVue map window's zoom extents auto-adjust to encompass the full extents of the map(s) added to it.

Also check that the "Show Edit History After Edit Performed" is checked, this will show a history of user edits in real time.

Optional: selecting the "Reverse Mouse Wheel Action" box will change the wheel scroll "up" to zoom in.

Click on the Properties Button in the Project Defaults Properties window.

For Scale, select "(English) Precipitation – max 30 in - Precipitation - 70% Opacity " from the dropdown menu.

You are now ready to begin adding shapefiles to the HEC-MetVue project.
