Adding shapefiles to the map provides a customized spatial reference for viewing data within HEC-MetVue.

Add Maps to Project Defaults.

Expand the Project Defaults node in the Explorer window.

Right‐click on the Map Data (shapefiles) node and choose Select Maps.

Select the Add Maps button.

Browse to: ...\HEC-MetVue_Overview_Start\HEC-MetVue\Maps

Highlight the available shapefiles for "BaldEagle" and "usa" and press Select Maps.

Adding shapefiles within the Project Defaults area will automatically transfer the same shapefiles to any new sessions that are created.

Activate Basin Average Map.

Check the box next to only the "BaldEagle" shapefile to designate it as a Basin Average (Avg) map.

By specifying a "Basin Avg" map, HEC-MetVue will aggregate the spatial data within the polygons of the Basin Avg shapefile.

Note that the "Basin Avg" map is denoted by the green callout, while "Background maps" are denoted by white ones.

Press OK to close the Select Maps dialog.

Note that, at any point during this workshop, you can save the Project using the Save icon ().

Also, HEC‐MetVue will auto‐save the project file when switching to another project or when closing the program.

You are now ready to create a new HEC-MetVue session in which you can add and view gridded data.
