This course provides users with theoretical background in statistical analysis as well as practice using analysis techniques and tools required for practical applications.  Topics covered include univariate and multivariate frequency analysis, regional analysis of hydrometeorological data, and regression analysis.  Knowledge gained within the lectures is applied through the use of the Hydrologic Engineering Center’s Statistical Software Package (HEC-SSP) as well as other commercial software packages in complementary workshops.

You will need HEC-SSP version 2.3 to open some of the workshop files. You can download the software here: https://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-ssp/download.aspx.  If you have any questions, please contact Mike Bartles.

You will need CRAN R version 4.3.1 or newer for some of the workshops.  It is available on the App Portal.  Search for "cran r" and sort by newest first.  If you have any questions, contact Greg Karlovits.

You will need RStudio version 2023.09.1 or newer for some of the workshops.  It is available on the App Portal.  Search for "rstudio" and sort by newest first.  If you have any questions, contact Greg Karlovits.

App Portal installations can take 2 or more days to start so please request these installations prior to the class starting.  CIO / G6 Software App Portal (army.mil)

A zip file containing the data files for each workshop is here: Initial_Workshop_Data_202401281928.zip

A zip file containing all the lecture slides and other materials listed on this page is here: Statistics in Hydrology Materials 202401251206.zip

The links to pre-recorded lectures are provided below in case you wish to review them before or after the class. Captions are available for all YouTube lecture videos. However, all lectures will be delivered live in the 2024 course.
