Computer Scientists GS-1550-5/13 04/08/2024 - 04/26/2024

The US Army Corps of Engineers, Institute for Water Resources, Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC), is advertising to fill a full-time 13-month term position for one or more Computer Scientist, GS-1550-5/13, duty location Davis, California. (Telework flexibility may be considered for advanced candidates).

The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable in software development and will communicate effectively, be self-driven, proactive, and able to solve complex problems. Depending on performance during the term appointment, applicants may be eligible for a term extension or conversion to a permanent position.

This is a non-supervisory position offered via a Direct Hire Authority that is open to all US Citizens.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a computer scientist helping with development, testing and deployment of high-quality engineering software.
  • Supports customers by documenting and resolving software issues.
  • Develops test cases to verify correctness and performance of the code they are responsible for.
  • Prepares and presents briefings to the team about their design decisions, code development milestones, and testing procedures.
  • Learns and works under senior programmers and engineers.
  • Advises and mentors junior programmers, where experience is appropriate.
  • Has experience-appropriate knowledge of one or more programming languages, including (but not limited to) C#, JAVA, C++, Go, etc.
  • Willing to learn new programming languages and skills as needed by the team.

The US Army Corps of Engineers, Institute for Water Resources, Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC), is advertising to fill a pathways student position for one or more computer scientists Computer Scientist, GS-1559-4/5 working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree, duty location Davis, California.

The ideal candidate should have some baseline knowledge of software development and will communicate effectively, be self-driven, proactive, and able to solve problems.

Applicants may be eligible for a conversion to a permanent position upon the completion of their degree.
