The US Army Corps of Engineers, Institute for Water Resources, Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC), is advertising to fill a full-time permanent position for one or more Computer Scientist, GS-1550-5/13, duty location Davis, California. (Telework flexibility may be considered for advanced candidates).

The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable in software development and will communicate effectively, be self-driven, proactive, and able to solve complex problems. Depending on performance during the term appointment, applicants may be eligible for a term extension or conversion to a permanent position.

This is a non-supervisory position offered via a Direct Hire Authority that is open to all US Citizens.

• Serves as a computer scientist helping with development, testing and deployment of high-quality engineering software.
• Supports customers by documenting and resolving software issues.
• Develops test cases to verify correctness and performance of the code they are responsible for.
• Prepares and presents briefings to the team about their design decisions, code development milestones, and testing procedures.
• Learns and works under senior programmers and engineers.
• Advises and mentors junior programmers, where experience is appropriate.
• Has experience-appropriate knowledge of one or more programming languages, including (but not limited to) C#, JAVA, C++, Go, etc.
• Willing to learn new programming languages and skills as needed by the team.
